Truthtellers
What is it?
Truthtellers is a transformative journey designed to empower parents like you, to take the reins as the primary educators on your children's journey through sexuality.
Being a parent myself, I understand that navigating the realm of sex education can be daunting. It's a delicate balance of providing accurate information, fostering healthy attitudes, and instilling values— all while ensuring our children feel supported and empowered to make informed decisions in their lives.
In this course, we'll get into the intricacies of sexuality education, embracing the beauty of these conversations and acknowledging the sometimes awkward but always crucial moments they entail. Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and heartfelt reflections, you will be equipped with the tools and confidence to become the ultimate Truthteller for your family.
Why should you attend this course?
Trust and Comfort: Parents are the primary source of trust and comfort for their children. By initiating and engaging in conversations about sex and relationships, parents create an open and supportive environment where children feel safe to ask questions, seek guidance, and express their concerns.
Values and Beliefs: Parents have the opportunity to share their values, beliefs, and cultural perspectives on sexuality, helping children develop a strong foundation for understanding and navigating sexual relationships in a healthy and responsible manner. This allows parents to instill their family's values and provide a moral compass for their children's decisions.
Accurate Information: Misinformation about sex and relationships is prevalent, particularly in the digital age. By being the first resource, parents can ensure that their children receive accurate and age-appropriate information about human anatomy, reproduction, consent, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the emotional aspects of relationships. This knowledge empowers children to make informed choices and protect their well-being.
Contextual Understanding: Parents can provide children with a contextual understanding of sex and relationships within the framework of their family's values, culture, and societal norms. This contextual knowledge helps children make sense of the broader world and equips them to critically analyze media, peer influences, and societal messages related to sexuality.
Emotional Support: Discussing sex and relationships can be emotionally charged for children. Parents who are actively involved in these conversations can offer emotional support, reassurance, and guidance. They can address any fears, anxieties, or misconceptions their children may have and provide a safe space for open dialogue.
Lifelong Communication: By being the go-to resource for sex talks, parents establish a foundation for ongoing communication about sexuality throughout their children's lives. This lays the groundwork for future discussions about consent, healthy relationships, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other important topics as children grow and develop.
Which topics are included in this course?
FOUNDATIONS
Knowing our own values helps us speak to our kids with confidence and clarity. Values don’t just tell us what to do, they tell us why we do it.
Setting this foundation makes all future communication infinitely easier.
PUBERTY
The bodily changes of puberty gradually become apparent, but knowing how to talk to our children and guiding them through the behavioral/emotional changes, helps set the stage for them to keep coming to you as they encounter different situations through their adolescent years.
CONSENT & BODY AUTONOMY
A true understanding of and respect for consent and body autonomy begins at home. We all know of consent, but do we know how to practice consent in our families?
In this session, we will understand consent experientially in a way that will be impactful for you and your child.
GENDER TALKS
Stumped as to how to talk about LGBTQIA+ topics with your kids?
In this session, we will tackle everything from gender stereotypes, to sexual orientations, and gender identities.
We teach inclusivity by modeling it.
PORNOGRAPHY & MEDIA LITERACY
Current research states that 1 in 10 children will have watched porn by age 10. With porn, it is not a question of if, it is when.
In this session, we will understand how to have the porn conversation with our kids, as well as discuss media literacy.
SEX & RELATIONSHIPS
And finally, in the last session, we reach the Grand Poobah - sex!
In this session, we will discuss how to talk about sex with our kids, as well as healthy ways of being in relationships.
